Major General Michael D. Dubie was promoted to Lieutenant General in a
ceremony hosted by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau General Craig R.
McKinley at the Pentagon Hall of Hero's. Lt. Gen. Dubie is the former Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard and will assume duties as the New Deputy Commander at United States Northern Command in Colorado Springs where he will replace Army Lt. Gen. Frank Grass who will become the new Chief of the National Guard Bureau in September of this year.

Lieutenant general
Lieutenant general, lieutenant-general and similar (abbrev Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second in command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general.
In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60,000–70,000 soldiers (U.S.).
The seeming incongruity that a lieutenant general outranks a major general (whereas a major outranks a lieutenant) is due to the derivation of the latter rank from sergeant major general, which was also subordinate to lieutenant general. In some countries (e.g. France and Italy), the ranks of corps general or lieutenant colonel general are used instead of lieutenant general, in an attempt to solve this apparent anomaly – these ranks are often translated into English as lieutenant general.

General officers in the Confederate States Army
The general officers of the Confederate States Army (CSA) were the senior military leaders of the Confederacy during the American Civil War of 1861–1865. They were often former officers from the United States Army (the regular army) prior to the Civil War, while others were given the rank based on merit or when necessity demanded. Most Confederate generals needed confirmation from the Confederate Congress, much like prospective generals in the modern U.S. armed forces.
Like all of the Confederacy's military forces, these generals answered to their civilian leadership, in particular Jefferson Davis, the South's president and therefore commander-in-chief of the Army, Navy, and Marines of the Confederate States.
History
Much of the design of the Confederate States Army was based on the structure and customs of the U.S. Army when the Confederate Congress established their War Department on February 21, 1861. The Confederate Army was composed of three parts; the Army of the Confederate States of America (ACSA, intended to be the permanent, regular army), the Provisional Army of the Confederate States (PACS, or "volunteer" Army, to be disbanded after hostilities), and the various Southern state militias.

Here’s why the US named bases for Confederate generals
As the U.S. readied to enter World War I, politicians amended Jim Crow-era laws, allowing minorities to boost the military ranks. The practice continued through to World War II. One such piece of legislation was the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, which stated "Provided, That in the selection and training of men under this Act ... there shall be no discrimination against any person on account of race or color." Historian Jonathan Bernstein says this forced integration led to the U.S. military naming bases after Confederate heroes as a way to placate disgruntled Southerners. United States Army Basic Training (also known as Initial Entry Training, IET) is the recruit training program of physical and mental preparation for service in the United States Army, United States Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Carried out at several different Army posts around the United States, Basic Training is designed to be highly intense and challenging. The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life. Here's an inside look at the United States Army's intense 22-week basic training known as OSUT, which stands for One Station Unit Training. Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan spent four days at the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence located inside the Fort Benning military installation near Columbus, Georgia, where he observed different companies at various stages of training.
After a processing period that takes one to two weeks, recruits experience what's known as a "shark attack," when drill sergeants create a high-stress environment through a series of rapid-fire instructions and commands. Once the intensity subsides and training begins, the dynamic between the drill sergeants and the recruits evolves into one found between a teacher and students in a classroom.
Despite rainy conditions that rarely let up during filming, we saw various dynamic aspects of training, such as marksmanship, tear gas exposure, and MOUT, which stands for military operations in urban terrain.
In the video, we incorrectly refer to duffle bags as rucksacks. Insider regrets the error.

Before the war had started the US army was a small professional force. When Germany overran Poland within a matter of weeks in 1939, a greater urgency was put on building up the numbers in the Army already envisioned by the Rainbow plan.
In 1940 the United States introduced selective conscription requiring registration of all men between 21 and 35 and by 1941 the US Army had grown to 1,500,000 men.

Lieutenant general
Lieutenant general, lieutenant-general and similar (abbrev Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second in command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general.
In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60,000–70,000 soldiers (U.S.).
The seeming incongruity that a lieutenant general outranks a major general (whereas a major outranks a lieutenant) is due to the derivation of the latter rank from sergeant major general, which was also subordinate to lieutenant general. In some countries (e.g. France and Italy), the ranks of corps general or lieutenant colonel general are used instead of lieutenant general, in an attempt to solve this apparent anomaly – these ranks are often translated into English as lieutenant general.

As the U.S. readied to enter World War I, politicians amended Jim Crow-era laws, allowing minorities to boost the military ranks.
The practice continued through to World War II. One such piece of legislation was the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, which stated "Provided, That in the selection and training of men under this Act ... there shall be no discrimination against any person on account of race or color."
Historian Jonathan Bernstein says this forced integration led to the U.S. military naming bases after Confederate heroes as a way to placate disgruntled Southerners.

Here's an inside look at the United States Army's intense 22-week basic training known as OSUT, which stands for One Station Unit Training. Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan spent four days at the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence located inside the Fort Benning military installation near Columbus, Georgia, where he observed different companies at various stages of training.
After a processing period that takes one to two weeks, recruits experience what's known as a "shark attack," when drill sergeants create a high-stress environment through a series of rapid-fire instructions and commands. Once the intensity subsides and training begins, the dynamic between the drill sergeants and the recruits evolves into one found between a teacher and students in a classroom.
Despite rainy conditions that rarely let up during filming, we saw various dynamic aspects of training, such as marksmanship, tear gas exposure, and MOUT, which stands for military operations in urban terrain.
In the video, we incorrectly refer to duffle bags as rucksacks. Insider regrets the error.

United States Army Basic Training (also known as Initial Entry Training, IET) is the recruit training program of physical and mental preparation for service in the United States Army, United States Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Carried out at several different Army posts around the United States, Basic Training is designed to be highly intense and challenging. The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life. Basic Training is divided into two parts: Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT). BCT consists of the first ten weeks of the total Basic Training cycle and is identical for all Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard recruits. AIT instead consists of the remainder of the total Basic Training period and is where recruits train in the specifics of their chosen fields. As such, AIT is different for each available Army career path, or Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). AIT courses can last anywhere from 4 to 52 weeks. Soldiers are still continually tested for physical fitness and weapons proficiency and are subject to the same duties, strict daily schedule and disciplinary rules as in BCT.

Before the war had started the US army was a small professional force. When Germany overran Poland within a matter of weeks in 1939, a greater urgency was put on building up the numbers in the Army already envisioned by the Rainbow plan.
In 1940 the United States introduced selective conscription requiring registration of all men between 21 and 35 and by 1941 the US Army had grown to 1,500,000 men.
